Grimm, Players Earn All-State Honors

PRESCOTT -- WP Tigers soccer coach Mark Grimm has been named 2011 Coach of the Year by the Washington State Soccer Coaches Association, a statewide sports organization that also named five Tigers to its All-State team.

The WSSCA's 2011 Fall Soccer Teams include Girls 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A, and Boys/ Girls 2B and 1B players.

The Tigers' 2011 playoff opponent St. George of Spokane featured prominently on the All-State list with four nominations, but Waitsburg- Prescott tied with Providence Classical Christian from Lynnwood for the highest number of players to receive the honor.

Five WP Tigers made it on the All State First Team: midfielders Francisco Gonzalez and Lino Diaz; and defenders Aldair Escalante and Kevin Ortega. Luis Fernando Torres made it on the Second Team as a forward.

"Congratulations to our coach and to our WP soccer team," Prescott Superintendent Dr. Bill Jordan said.

The WP Tigers won the state title in their division last fall, beating the Providence Classical Christian Highlanders. The poll is taken among WSSCA members and other high school coaches across Washington State.
