Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
DAYTON -- The Dayton Chamber of Commerce, which serves businesses in Dayton and also has members in Waitsburg, has some new additions to its board, a development expected bring new energy and ideas to the organization.
Scott Underwood, owner of PC Solutions on Main Street, and Stephanie Guettinger, manager at Columbia County Transportation, are replacing Dayton City Councilwoman Kathy Berg and Andie Holmberg from America West Bank. Both recently stepped down from the board.
"Some new blood is going to really help," Claudia Nysoe, executive director at the chamber, said. "Both will be a good addition to our board."
Insurance broker Bette Lou Crothers is handing over her former position as chairwoman of the board to Bev Rising from Banner Bank, while Blue Mountain News Publisher Ken Graham is the new vice chairman and Barb Miller from Sterling Savings Bank, is the new treasurer.
The other chamber members include Ann Walsh (Puget Sound Energy), Katie Leid (Dayton Elementary School), Bill Clemens (Pacific Power),
Dan Andrews (Columbia REA), Cara Breland (Croft's Flowers) and State Rep. Terry Nealey (Ex Officio).
This year, the chamber is raising its membership fees, which range depending the type and size of the entity. The starting rate for a business is now $110, up from $100, while the fee for government entities is $400, up from $375, Nysoe said .
However, the cost of belonging to the chamber for individual area residents drops from $60 to $40, a move designed to encourage local citizens to become more active in the organization.
"We're hoping to get more community people involved in the chamber," she said.
The organization is gearing up for Brix & Brew, its annual fundraising event that draws hundreds of people each year to raise money for chamber operations and activities.
The benefit scheduled for March 16 will be held at the Running T Ranch. Walsh, the auction committee chairwoman, has been busy bringing in in-kind donations.
Area residents who are interested in supporting the chamber, or who want to get tickets to Brix and Brew, can contact the chamber at 509- 382-4825.
