Man Arrested In Link To 4 Burglaries

DAYTON - A Dayton man was arrested Monday under the charges that he committed two commercial burglaries and two attempted break ins last Saturday night around the city.

Glenn E. Dennison, 43, was arrested and booked into Columbia County Jail about noon on Monday. Dennison is a resident of the Patit Creek Congregate Care Facility, an assisted living residence in Dayton, according to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

He is being held on charges of two counts of burglary of the second degree, two counts of attempted burglary of the second degree, malicious mischief of the second degree, criminal trespass of the first degree, three counts of theft of the third degree and possession of stolen property of the third degree.

Sunday morning, deputies investigated four reported break ins overnight that hit the PDQ, McQuary's grocery store, the liquor store and the Columbia County Prosecutor's Office.

The PDQ break in occurred just after employees closed the store for the night on Saturday about 10 p.m., law enforcement officials said. The suspect did not gain entry, but was caught on cameras attempting the burglary.

With the use of the security cameras, deputies also observed the suspect breaking the glass of the liquor store's front door across the street from the PDQ.

Also Saturday night, the Prosecutor's Office, located right behind the PDQ, and McQuary's were burglarized. The burglar gained entry and stole miscellaneous items including cigarettes, coffee mugs and spare change.

Deputies found a set of muddy boot prints at all four sites that resemble boots the burglar was wearing in the security camera video, offi cials said.

Dennison was identified by law enforcement officials as the primary suspect for these crimes, officials said, and with his permission, they searched his room at the Patit Creek facility. In the room, they recovered several packs of cigarettes, two metal coffee mugs, a plastic container full of loose change and a pair of boots that matches the muddy prints found at the crime scenes.

The Sheriff's Office determined Dennison, who walks with the assistance of a wheeled walker, could be housed safely at the Columbia County Jail and he was arrested about noon on Monday.
