Ten Years Ago February 28, 2002 In this issue, Glenn Vogt is featured showing a beautiful steelhead he caught in the Touchet River near Huntsville. Weighing in at seven and a half pounds, the fish measured 29 inches. Now living in Walla Walla, Vogt graduated from Waitsburg. The community is gearing up for the City Caucus on Tuesday. With several vacancies expected interested citizens will have an opportunity to get into politics.

Twenty-Five Years Ago March 12, 1987 Kermit D. "Colly" Jones, long-time area spray pilot and worker at the Days of Real Sport, will lead the 1987 Days of Real Sport parade, Saturday, May 16. The Waitsburg Historical Society has gone on record as being opposed to the demolition of the Ritter Building located on Main Street. Repairing the front façade of the building then making the entire structure entry-proof would cost much less and still retain the historical flavor. Denise's Why Not Shop will close its doors at the close of business on Friday, March 13, owner Denise Winnett told The Times this week.

Fifty Years Ago March 9, 1962 Wylie Parker, Clyde Gephart, Hubert Harting, James Miller, Paul Johnson, Robert Startin and Roland Baker were all recipients of 15-year awards at a retirement dinner held Saturday night in Dayton. The "Silver Spurs" from Spokane will appear in concert here this Saturday night for the PTA benefit. Mrs. Sam Hall and Mrs. Mike Saxon will have charge of the buffet, which will precede the program. Gary Gainer of Walla Walla has been hired by the city as recreation instructor for the summer months. He is at present a student at the University of Puget Sound. Valley Vision Clinic announced the appointment of Dr. Luther Ness as a new associate at its Walla Walla office. Dr. Ness' wife, Claudia, is an R.N. at St. Mary Medical Center in Wall Walla.

Seventy-Five Years Ago March 12, 1937 George Allmon, employed at the Marcus Zuger farm, received a serious scalp wound Friday afternoon when a team of mules he was driving ran away. A fine flock of 265 Chinese pheasants were liberated Tuesday morning along the Coppei between the McCown and Walker Farms. The plan is to make a game preserve in the area. Delta Lodge No. 70, Knights of Pythias is sponsoring the purchase of uniforms for the school band and to assist in increasing this fund, a benefit dance is to be given at the Legion Hall on Saturday, March 20.

One Hundred Years Ago March 10, 1912 Henry Zuger has ordered from the Waitsburg Lumber Yard, lumber with which to erect a large bar, 56 by 102 feet on what is commonly known as the Kent Farm at Bolles Junction. Work will commence about the first of the month. Charles Wlle, who is a civil engineer, has been at work for some months in the Big Bend country, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Weller. M.H. Land, the photographer, has a force of men tearing down the old frame gallery, near Main Street bridge which was badly damaged by fire a few evenings ago. Mr. Land has recently purchased a lot on Preston Avenue and may decide to erect a onestory brick thereon.
