Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

Dear Editor,

Last week, the Dayton High School Boys basketball team participated in the State B tournament held in Spokane.

After three days of competition the boys brought home a sixth place trophy and some great memories. The team, their families and the coaching staff should be very proud the team's accomplishments. During the tournament and throughout the year other students participated alongside of our team. These students were members of the cheer squad and the band. The cheer team practiced all season and committed themselves to preparing for games, fundraising for uniforms and camps, as well as attending all home and away games. It can be a grueling season for students and parents. Finally, our band director Tabitha Bower, and a large number of middle school students (grades 6-7- 8), and parents committed themselves to providing music to home games and all of our tournament games in Walla Walla and Spokane. This meant traveling back and forth to Spokane three days in a row for the state tourney!

It has been my privilege to participate in a number of state-level events, and in so doing have met people from all over Washington. In reconnecting with many while in Spokane, they often asked how I liked living and working in Dayton. I told them I really enjoyed my work and the people with whom I work and work for. Many commented positively on how our students represented themselves and our community. I heard similar comments from hotel staff, restaurant staff and gas station employees who provided services to our students during the trip.

I wanted our community to know how well our students and staff handle themselves when they are out of town and to thank you for the support that helps makes trips like this possible. Thank you to the students, teachers, coaches, athletic director, support staff and families who made the tournament so enjoyable and for sharing the Bulldog Pride.
