DAYTON -- The newest addition to Dayton City Council, Arthur Hall, was appointed by a unanimous vote on Monday, Feb. 27.
When Hall moved to Dayton in February 2010, he said he had no intention of running for city council at any point in time. When the position opened up, friends and associates suggested he apply, so he did. Hall said he is already looking toward November when he will be up for public election reaffi rming his position on the council.
Hall currently works for the General Services Administration (GSA) out of Richland as an assistant property manager. He has worked for the GSA since 2010.
He has served more than 20 years of active duty in the Navy and retired as a chief petty officer.
Hall worked for Northwest Hospital in Seattle as an engineer before he enrolled in the University of Washington.
In 2008, Hall graduated from UW with a bachelor's degree in environmental studies and he said he still has an interest in salmon restoration and environmental preservation.
Hall has owned his current home since 2008. He and his wife Brenda, a nursing student at Walla Walla Community College, visited Dayton as an escape from Seattle life and treated their Dayton home as a vacation home. They now reside in Dayton full time. Hall and his wife have been married for 31 years and the couple has one daughter.
Currently Hall has no major connections to specific Dayton businesses, which he said makes him a great council member as he will not have any conflicts of interest.
Hall said he is happy to serve his community and he hopes to help create more job opportunities in Dayton.
Currently, Hall commutes to Richland from Dayton but he said he quickly learned to spot deer and when to watch out for deer crossing the road. He said he also has learned what time of year he should just drive his truck.
In his free time, Hall likes to ride Harley Davidson motorcycles and especially enjoys going for rides through Dayton in the summer. He also likes camping and fishing .
Hall said he would like to remind Dayton residents to vote for him in the November city council election.
