Financial pressure will face new mayor and council. With city elections less than a month away, the financial struggles facing the City of Waitsburg and the possible impact and solutions were a topic of discussion at the city meeting March 6. But, with the Washington State Legislature still in session and no definitive, predictable legislation in the works, Mayor Wayne Peterson and the Waitsburg City Council did the only thing they could: postpone any decision on budgetary or financial matters until after the Legislature goes home.

The Waitsburg Commercial Club honored Pat Leid with its Community Service Award, presented every year at the Commercial Club Annual Banquet, which is held at Ye Towne Hall. Pat's husband Roy received the award 20 years earlier in 1967.
Fifty Years Ago March 23, 1962
A Court of Honor of Troop 36 Boys Scouts was head March 15. Life Scout awards were given to Jeff Broom and Jack Cyr Jr.: Larry Bunton, Ray Mohney, and Doug Brown.
The annual Rhythm Program will be held in Preston Hall on March 30. The program will include folk dances directed by Mrs. Aleta Combs, Mrs. Gladys Keve, Mrs. Gladys Beouy, Mrs. Allene Wills and Mrs. Cloris Ponce; square dancing by Mrs. Margaret Jensen; choral singing by Mrs. Lora Mae Bowles; and tumbling by Glynn Davis.
Seventy-Five Years Ago March 26, 1937
Harold Roberts and family arrived home Wednesday of last week from Long Beach, CA. where they spent the winter. Harold is "laying off" the ranch work in hopes of improving his health, which has not been satisfactory for some time.
Harold Bloor, Elomer Berland and Fred Buroker visited Sunday at Eureka at Fred's sister, Mrs. Marvin Langdon and husband.
The frequent showers during the past week have been very welcome and this district is gradually catching up on deficient moisture. Spring seeding has been interrupted somewhat but the moisture is more important now.

Mr. G.M. Lloyd, proprietor of the Central Market, has definitely decided to fill a long-felt want in the community and is making arrangements to erect at once a coldstorage plant at the rear of the meat market.
Miss Cora Loundagin who has moved onto her orchard tract near Dayton, in order to oversee its improvements, was in the city this week.
A.C. Garner and his wife have decided to again make this city their home. Mr. Garner had accepted a permanent position with the Central Market as a butcher.

Snake River open -- Texas Ferry is now running and ready to accommodate the traveling public.
F.B. Boone has purchased an interest in the Suddreth saw mill on the head of Hog Eye. The firm name is still T.T. Suddreth & Co., and the saw mill will begin to cut lumber as soon as the snow gets away, and the mill gets thawed out.
Mrs. Vinnie Abbott came out from Walla Walla last night on a visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Perrington.
G.W. Phipps last Monday sold his ranch of 160 acres, 6 miles north of Prescott, for $800.
