Lady Dogs Play Rough Game Against Colton

COLTON - The Lady Bulldogs were no match for the solid team from Colton High School. Dayton lost to the Colton Wildcats in a non-league doubleheader last Saturday, 16-6, and 10-0.

In the first game, both were played on Wildcat turf, Dayton earned six runs, six hits and made seven errors. Colton had 16 runs, 10 hits and made no errors.

Assistant coach Desirae Jones had said earlier in the week she knew Colton was a tough team and Saturday would be challenging for the Bulldogs. It turned out to be just as challenging as she had thought.

" Colton has a solid team with some great hitters," Jones said. "We needed to play strong defense to be in these games and we didn't do that."

The battery ( pitchers and catchers) for the first game were McKayla Bickelhaupt, Colleen Delp and Taylor Frame. For Colton, the pitcher was Jenna Moser and catcher was Carrie Hennigar.

Bickelhaupt and Jessica Tate led the Bulldogs with two hits each and Sarah Phillips and Shelby Smith each had one.

For Colton, Moser had three hits, followed by Kaden Dahmen with two and Kaitlin Druffel, Haley Moser, Meghan Heitstuman, Hannah Kramer and Winnie Schultheis with one.

In game two, the Bulldogs weren't able to maintain the effort of the first game. Dayton had no runs, three hits and four errors. Colton had 10 runs, 13 hits and made no errors. Dayton's Lexus Ward and Bickelhaupt covered pitching and catching for the game. Colson had Taylor Nilson and Carrie Hennigar pitching and catching.

Phillips made two hits for Dayton and Smith made one.

For Colton, Druffel lead the pack with three hits, followed by Haley Moser, Heitstuman and Kramer with two. Erin Weber, Savannah Chadwick and Hennigar all had one hit.

"Bickelhaupt and Ward threw a lot of strikes," Jones said. "But Colton showed up with their bats ready. Unfortunately, our bats never came alive."

The Bulldogs are now 2- 0 in league and 3- 2 overall. The Lady Bulldogs host Touchet on Wednesday, April 11, for a single varsity game at 4 p.m.
