KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

DAYTON -- If your child will be 5 years of age as of midnight Aug. 31 and you live within Dayton School District No. 2 boundaries, please plan to attend a gathering at Dayton Elementary School on Wednesday, April 25 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. Families can enjoy dinner, register, meet the teacher, tour the classroom and receive tips on preparing their child for success. Dinner will be served from 5:30 - 6 p.m. Items to bring with you, if possible, are a birth certificate (Official State Certificate) and immunization (shot) records. Official birth certificates for the state of Washington are available at Columbia County Public Health at 1002 South 3rd Street (382-2181). SHAKESPEARE COMES TO LIBERTY

DAYTON -- This Friday, April 20 at 1 p.m., actors from Shakespeare Walla Walla will take to the Liberty Theater stage to perform Romeo & Juliet. The live performance is the culmination of a week the actors spent with Dayton ninth graders, teaching the student to appreciate Shakespeare's rich use of vocabulary. Members of the community are invited to attend, at no cost, space permitting.

TVAC Productions is looking for actors for roles in our upcoming mystery theater, "You Have the Right to Remain Dead." An informational meeting will be held at the Liberty on Monday, April 23 at 7 p.m. And on Thursday, April 26 at 7 p.m., the Liberty will kick of this year's Great Film Series: The Westerns. The theme of justice in the American West continues every other Thursday through June 21. Information all of the films can be found at http:// libertytheater.org/classic.htm.

SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE

KENNEWICK -- The William O. Douglas Chapter's Laurie J. Williams Scholarship benefits students from Eastern Washington or Eastern Oregon majoring in journalism at any college or university. Applications must be accompanied by transcripts, a cover letter stating the applicant's journalistic goals, three recently published writing samples, two letters of recommendation from teachers, professors or editors and three detailed descriptions of stories the student would pursue if given the opportunity, including an outline, source contacts and ideas for supporting art or graphics. TIRE RECYCLING

WALLA WALLA - Walla Walla County is offering tire recycling events on Sunday, April 29 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., at Lyons park in College Place, Saturday, May 5 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., at the Burbank Fire Station and Saturday, May 19 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., across from the Sports Complex on Tausick Way in Walla Walla. The recycling is open to Walla Walla County residents only; must show proof of residency and ID; no business or retail accepted.
