WAITSBURG - With six musicians and a full-blown "rhythm section" that includes drums and bass, Frog Hollow Band is all set up for big concerts and dances.
The acoustic evening planned for Saturday, April 28 at 7 p.m. at Coppei Café is a bit out of the ordinary for the three performing members.
But lead singer Nick Berg, guitarist Ty Lane and drummer Brian Richards welcome the chance to play at the smaller venue.
"The acoustics are great in the coffee shop," Berg said. "It's a lot more laid back."
Berg and Lane have done acoustic sets before and laughed and said that they are more "dangerous" because there isn't as much sound to cover up little glitches when there are fewer musicians. That means, however, that they are more spontaneous and intimate. The three Hollow ers said they will try out some new material and gauge audience reactions.
Richards, who usually plays a full drum set, will avail himself of a djembe, a rope-tuned, skin-covered drum played with bare hands.
"Acoustic sets will happen the way they happen," Lane said. "It's exciting to try new stuff in front of people. It will be real, live and not overrehearsed."
