ROSALIA - The Lady Bulldogs are in third place in their league with a 6-4 record after splitting a doubleheader with Tekoa-Oakesdale- Rosalia Saturday. But the Dogs won't know for some time whether they'll go to the playoffs as other league teams still have as many as half their league games left to play.
Dayton came out swinging against TOR on Saturday, beating the Night Hawks, 9-4, in the first game.
Bulldog pitcher Sam Harting struck out nine of the first 10 batters and had 14 strike outs total, allowing only three hits during the first matchup.
"Sam had an amazing first game pitching," assistant coach Desirae Jones said .
On offense, the Lady Bulldogs got runners on and "always seemed to get that opportune hit," she went on. "Then, we just ran out of steam in the second game."
Harting, who pitched both games, gave up a lot more hits in the second game, allowing the Night Hawks to build up momentum and clinch the win.
"We didn't play bad, but we didn't play our game either," Jones said. "We gave up lots of hits and didn't respond with our own hits when we needed them."
TOR scored in every inning with three runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth, beating the Dogs, 11-5. Still, catcher Sarah Phillips had four hits in the two games, while Harting had three.
The split gave Dayton a 6-4 record with WP and DeSales ahead at 8-2 and 5-1, respectively. DeSales still has about half its league games left to play.
Dayton's next game against Liberty Christian has been moved to Thursday, May 10, from Monday, May 7.
