Wanted: Your comments on Corps' Coppei Creek Flood protection proposal. The Coppei River left the stream bed, going over the north bank in the vicinity of the Days of Real Sport fairgrounds, flowing over and down Highway 12, through a residential area and collecting in the downtown area next to Preston Park, inundating the park, city pool and several Waitsburg Businesses.

Days of Real Sports all set for this weekend; Fun Run, Drawings, & New events. The 74th running of the Days of Real Sport, this weekend will include some new wrinkles along with the traditional events of nearly three-quarters of a century.

Fifty Years Ago May 11, 1962

R.D. Roberts who was born in Wilson Hollow near Waitsburg on Jan. 6, 1875 was honored at the Commercial Club Tuesday night at the age of 87 with a certificate for his services to the community and the organization.

May Queen Lynn Mantz will be honored at the annual May Dance on Friday evening. Her attendants will be Judy Duckworth, Gail Wheeler, Kathy Saxon, Joy Broom, Donna Harris, Virginia Sergraves, Kathy Mantz and Kathy Weeks.

Seventy-Five Years Ago May 14, 1937

The acreage planted to peas in Walla Walla and Columbia counties in Washington and Umatilla county in Oregon may total as high as 40,000 acres this year.

The Waitsburg track team took eight out of a possible fourteen first places in the track meet at Walla Walla Saturday. Bobby Rhay and Bob Hillis each had 13.5 points and John Neace 11.5.

One Hundred Years Ago May 10, 1912

John Minnick's valuable saddle mare Goldie foaled twin colts Friday, May 3, sired by Dr. R.W. Loundagin's Kentucky Saddler Squirrel. One colt is a mare and one a horse and both seem to be doing well.

Will Vollmer, son of Hon. Gustav Vollmer who has been farming the Vollmer farm near ZHelix, Oregon for the past two years, will take charge of the Hungate farm in Spring Valley which has been leased for some years by Mr. Vollmer.

One Hundred Twenty-Five Years Ago May 6, 1887

W.P. Bruce will leave Sunday evening for Dr. Jackson's water cure institution in New Yourk, in the hopes of benefiting his health.

J.V. Crawford was heard to rapidly repeat the Lord's Prayer one day last week, while falling from the top of Geo. Brown's two story residence to mother earth. No injury sustained.

At a meeting of the directors of this school district last Saturday, A.W. Gambel of Sidney, Ohio, was elected principal of our public schools at a salary of $80 per month. Miss Lena Erwin and Miss Fannie Boardman were retained in their present positions a salary of $50 each per month. This leaves two positions yet to be filled. Caw and Don Dayton, and Michael Steven Roberts, son of Bruce and Joyce Bell and the late Steve Roberts, married at a private residence in Waitsburg on April 14, 2012, with Pastor Bret Moser officiating.

The bride is the assistant director of BirthPlace at Pullman Regional Hospital. The grooms is the owner and operator of T.M.R. Detailing in Colfax.

The bride and groom had their children, Tucker Gleason and Trace Roberts, stand up with them during the ceremony. A reception was held at the Waitsburg Lion's Club Building.

The wedding was a classic ceremony with black, white and red colors. The bride carried a dozen red roses

The couple honeymooned in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, for seven days, and makes their home in Colfax.
