Quincy Harper Rocks Coppei

WAITSBURG - Described as a Texas Troubadour with a great future, 30-something singer and songwriter Quincy Harper will bring his unique voice, style and acoustic guitar playing to the Coppei Café this Saturday. The performance starts around 7 p.m.

Harper was raised in a musical family. His grandfather, James Victor "Vic" Harper, from Harper, Texas, played several instruments including fiddle. The elder Harper played with the Light Crust Doughboys and with other legendary Texas musicians and bands. His love of music was passed down to the children and grandchildren. Quincy's father, Boyd Harper, is an accomplished singer, songwriter and bandleader in his own right, performing in many memorable shows when Quincy was growing up. He would accompany his dad onstage and pretend he was playing guitar, which he really began to do more seriously in high school. The younger Harper sharpened his skills and developed a unique vocal style - one that emits strength and emotion. He began his first recording project in summer 2003 and completed it in May 2004. The album, titled "Hole In The Wall," is a compilation of songs that range from "full-band with acoustic feel" to "pure acoustic guitar and vocal songs," according to one review. Each song r is influenced by growing up and playing music in Texas.

The reviewer said the album captures "the essence of Quincy's sound and marks his arrival on the Texas music scene. He now calls Walla Walla his home.
