RED CROSS HERO AWARDED WALLA WALLA -- The American Red Cross is pleased to announce a Hometown Hero Jerromy Kerby. Kerby was presented with the Red Cross Hometown Hero Good Samaritan Award at the Blue Mountain chapter office at 175 South Park Street on May 23 at 12:30 p.m. While on a construction job at a client's home, Kerby witnessed the family's horse escape from its pasture. Before it could be returned, the horse galloped across a covered swimming pool, where it fell through and became entangled at the deep end. Because of Jerromy's quick action and creative thinking, the horse was kept alive until he and the crew could rescue it. The Red Cross applauds this Hometown Hero, who is our Good Samaritan of the year!

DANCE FESTIVAL WALLA WALLA - Leap Into Dance, three small but action-filled words that sum up the plans and hopes for the 2012 season of the Walla Walla Summer Dance Festival, which takes place from July 21 through the Grand Festival Performance in Cordiner Hall at 7 p.m. on July 27. The Festival is delighted to follow the success of its inaugural 2011 season with an ambitious program featuring a return of one of the great regional companies in the United States, the Oregon Ballet Theatre. Then in sharp contrast to the stunning refinement of a contemporary ballet company, the Festival offers the cutting-edge hip-hop company, Cruz Control of Seattle. Finally, the Festival is proud to announce a world premiere created especially for the Festival and featuring the critically acclaimed John Passafiume Dancers of New York City. Walla Walla Summer Dance Festival is an outgrowth of the venerable pre-professional training intensive at Whitman College, Summer Dance Lab. Both entities currently operate under the aegis of Whitman College, but the Festival stands apart with its mission to present professional dance from the Northwest and across the country. Each season different dance styles are featured, performed by established and up-and-coming companies and groups with a special emphasis on shining new talents in choreography.
