Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
DAYTON -- The addition of a pub crawl, live music and other new entertainment through the rebranded Dayton entertainment district is aimed at enticing younger people to come out and participate in Dayton events and looking to make this year's All-Wheels Weekend the most successful yet.
There will be a live band downtown Friday night as well as fireworks and a presentation of the cars, coordinator Bette Lou Crothers said.
Saturday will start with the National Anthem performed by Markeeta Little Wolf. This year there will be a large flag hung up over Main Street for everyone to face while Little Wolf sings at 9 a.m.
The Saturday events will include of men's and women's poker walks, which will award prizes to the winners.
For those who like fast engines and men in drag, there will also be an outlaw dragster's race and a battle of souped up lawn mowers.
"That one's a real crowd pleaser," Crothers said. "And of course the men's drag race is always hilarious."
The drag race is where local men volunteer to dress up, come up with a stage name and race on giant tricycles.
The day will also mark a milestone for Dayton. At 11 a.m. there will be an official groundbreaking for the new Best Western Hotel at the top of the hill, Crothers said.
For those looking for something more slowly paced, there will also be slow drag races which is a race between cars without engines.
Money will be awarded to the winner of that race, Crothers said.
As in years past, there will be a demo derby and a beer garden Saturday evening. This year will mark the introduction of a pub crawl through the Dayton downtown entertainment district on Main Street.
The Weinhard Café, Mace Mead Works, The Grainhouse Grill and Skye Book and Brew will all have live entertainment and Threshers Bar and Grill will have karaoke.
"If you make it to all five places you're entered into a drawing for gift certificates," Crothers said. "We are trying to find that niche for some of our younger people. We have something for all age groups."
Coordinator Linze Purcell said she is excited about a lot of the events and she thinks the pub crawl is going to be a great addition to the lineup of events.
"The pub crawl will be fun," Purcell said. "There will be music and drinks and everyone can relax."
Sunday morning there will be a Father's Day breakfast at the fairgrounds as well as a golf tournament and a putting contest.
Crothers said the weather is supposed to be beautiful and there will be a high volume of vendors for participants to shop from for both food and merchandise.
Purcell said there were 361 cars in last year's All- Wheels Weekend car show and Crothers said there are already a lot of early registrations for this year's show.
"There are a lot of newcomers in the auto show this year," Purcell said.
Both Crothers and Purcell said the weekend is shaping up to look like a lot of fun and they encourage everyone to attend the event to check out everything it has to offer.
