Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

To the Editor,

As a retired fireman and former deputy coroner, I un- derstand how important it is for families to know that services will be available in times of need. I appreciate those in our community who are willing to advocate for those important services, which is why I am voting for Chris Blackman for County Commissioner District 2.

Only Chris has the back- ground as a true public servant, serving children and families for over 20 years. With this diverse background she un- derstands firsthand the needs of small towns like Waitsburg, Prescott, Touchet, and the rest of Walla Walla County. She has served honorably and pas- sionately, always with a desire to improve the services to all.

Did you realize that the taxpayers of Walla Walla County pay county commissioners a generous salary of $68,000 plus benefits? Can you imagine what could be accomplished if we had a county commis- sioner who actually earned that full salary and worked 40 plus hours a week in the commissioner's office, making them available to the public at all times. I can and that's why I'm voting for Chris Blackman.

Did you know that county commissioners oversee the budget of nine elected officials and 12 department heads? Their job as the legislative arm of the county is to be aware of the important issues, facilitate growth, and focus on a strategic plan that puts the needs of the people first. Issues like public safety, crime prevention, safe streets and social services are just a few issues that come to my mind, but they don't seem to be that important to the cur- rent county commissioners- unless, of course it's election year and everything becomes important then. Generally, all I hear is how much money is in reserves while county em- ployees take furlough days, we all endure higher taxes, and receive a cut in services or benefits.

Chris Blackman has a vision for Walla Walla County that includes addressing the issues facing our communities and she's not afraid to fight for it. Chris Blackman will work hard for Walla Walla County and be available every day of the week. She will push for public hearings to be offered at a time that reaches more residents- not always during the day like they are now. She will advocate for what the people need, and not wait until election year to implement best practice.

Walla Walla County de- serves a county commissioner like Chris Blackman. She has my vote and I urge you to vote for her as well

Sincerely,

Wayne Jorstad

Walla Walla
