FREE LIBRARY BOX VANDALIZED WAITSBURG -- Rosie Warehime, the manager of the Weller Public Libray, said one of the free library boxes built by Warehime's family and painted by summer reading program children was vandalized. Warehime said the free libray box placed at Preston Park last Thursday was found Saturday on the ground with the door broken and the books strewn about. Warehime said she has reported the crime to the Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office and the free library box will be fixed and replaced at the park.

CHRISTIAN WOMEN'S LUNCHEON DAYTON -- The luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m., Aug. 15 at the Columbia County Fairgrounds Youth Build- ing. SPORTS MEETINGS COMING UP WAITSBURG - A Mandatory WP parent and athlete Fall Sports Meeting at 7 p.m., Aug. 6 in the Waitsburg High School Auditorium. There will be a mandatory WP coaches meeting, for all coaches for 2012-2013 sports, at 8 p.m., on Aug. 6 at Waitsburg High School in the third-floor staff work room.

POETRY CONTEST WAITSBURG - A $1,000 grand prize is being offered to the last poet standing in a free contest by the Celestial Arts Society. There are 50 prizes totaling $5,000. Poems of 21 lines or fewer on any subject and in any style will be judged by the Contest Director Dr. James Cameron. Entries must be received by Aug. 20. DINNER & A MOVIE DAYTON -- Time for a great dinner and a movie at the Liberty Theater! FREE WHOOPING COUGH VACCINE WALLA WALLA - The Walla Walla County Health Department has free whooping cough vaccine for unin- sured individuals 19 years of age and older and adequate vaccine for children through 18 years of age. Cost is not a barrier to immunization of children as fees can be waived for those without insurance or who cannot afford vaccine. For more information on how to get vaccinated, call 509- 524-2655.

DAYTON NIGHT AT THE SWEETS GAME DAYTON - Teen Scene of Columbia County, a summer recreation program for local teens, is hosting Dayton Night at the Sweets Game. There are 50 tickets for the game on Aug. 2, on a first come, first serve basis, available to any- one in the community. Tickets are $10 each and include transportation to and from the game. NEW COMMUNITY DIRECTOR WALLA WALLA -- Affinity at Walla Walla has named Kay Raddatz as its new community director. Before mov- ing to Walla Walla, she was the business office manager and marketing director for Atria Kachina Point, a retire- ment and assisted living community in Arizona. Since coming to Walla Walla, Raddatz has been the program coordinator for the Walla Walla Community College Foun- dation, where many people know her from her work with the summer musicals and other fundraising events. Most recently she served as marketing director for Shakespeare Walla Walla.
