CITY COUNCIL MEETING CHANGE WAITSBURG - The Waitsburg City Council meeting will be held on Aug. 21 this month instead of the 15 because of scheduling conflicts. The council meets at 7 p.m. at the Lions Club building at the Waitsburg Fairgrounds. The public is invited.
PRESTON HALL ORIENTATION WAITSBURG -- Waitsburg Middle School is having an open house and ice cream social at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 27. The event will be held at Preston Hall and will include a short meeting with ice cream.
CHIPSEALING PROJECT WAITSBURG -- The city of Waitsburg expects Walla Walla County Public Works to be in the city the week of Aug. 20th to chipseal Academy, Arnold Lane, Murphy and Maple streets. Homeowners should try and not park on the street if at all pos- sible during the chipsealing activity.

OPEN HOUSE DAYTON -- There will be an open house for the Blue Mountain Christian School at 203 S Second in Dayton on Aug. 30 at 7pm.
BIBLE SCHOOL FUNDRAISER DAYTON -- One of Dayton First Congregational Church- UCC's two Vacation Bible School projects involves collecting money for rainwater collection barrels that will be used at Quest for Happiness Ministry, a program that cares for the orphans and vulnerable children in Nairobi, Kenya. In Kenya, an increasing number of orphans are taken in following the death of one or both parents from HIV/AIDS along with the many children who have lost parents in political skirmishes and massacres, and from overwhelming poverty. Our neighbors at United Methodist Church have collected nearly $500 dollars to help the mission purchase water collection barrels and they have set a goal of $100 to add to that amount. RIBBON CUTTING WALLA WALLA -- The Walla Walla County Com- missioners are pleased to announce a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Community Service Center, part of the county-owned building at 1520 Kelly Place. The newly remodeled and renovated building will be opened to the public on Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for viewing. A separate agenda for the event accompanies this news release. The Spokane firm of Leone & Keeble General Construction, Inc. served as general contractor for the project.

CONCESSION NOTE WALLA WALLA - On Aug. 8 after a recount of the ballot's from the Primary Election, Richard Wernette, who ran against Scott Wolfram for Superior Court Judge, issued a note conced- ing the race. "My heartfelt appreciation to my wife Debbie and my family for their love, support and encouragement. I greatly appreciate all of my supporters' votes and their hard work on my behalf. Thank you to the Law Enforcement Community who work every day to keep us safe. Thank you Judge Schacht for your years of dedicated public service. I congratulate Mr. Wolfram and wish him well in his service as a Superior Court Judge. Richard Wernette" Wolfram won the race for judge with 54.83 percent of the vote after the recount on Aug. 9.
