PRESCOTT – The Prescott School District will get two much-needed pur- chases this year – two new school buses.

Prescott’s Business Man- ager AJ Jacobson said two of the school buses owned by the district will be replaced. One bus is a 2000, 35-passenger vehicle that has 184,284 miles. The other bus is also a 2000, 35-passenger vehicle with 206,060 miles on it. The buses run about 550 to 650 miles per week.

Both buses will be re- placed with 2013 Bluebird buses that can carry 36 to 48 passengers each.

The school district authorized the purchases of the two buses and they were ordered last April. The total cost is $218,132.98 for both vehi- cles, Jacobson said. The buses are expected to arrive 150 to 180 days after ordering.

The buses are paid for by the district’s Transportation Vehicle Fund. The district earns money for the fund are based on the depreciation of the buses, or how old the current buses get, earnings from investments from the transportation fund and from the sale of other vehicles. The transportation fund can only be used to purchase yellow school buses, and not cars or vans.
