Food & Wine To Feature Waitsburg

WAITSBURG - Food and restaurant photographer David Reamer really wasn't sure what he was getting himself into on his trip to photograph locations in Waitsburg last Thursday.

But that's typical.

Reamer said he is often photographing places without much context because as a magazine photographer he has little to no contact with the writer. He does not know what the magazine article will even be about.

Reamer was a profes- sional cook for 13 years and throughout the last six years he has been transitioning into a career as a food and restaurant photographer. He has taken photos full-time for the last two years.

For this trip, Food & Wine Magazine, a national publication, hired Reamer to photograph three locations in Waitsburg - the Anchor Bar, jimgermanbar and Coppei Coffee Co. Food & Wine's sister magazine Sunset had featured Waits- burg in a tour of five "Wine Country Dream Towns" last February.

"My job is to get a vibe of the town and go to these three places," Reamer said. "And have some fun with it."

Reamer said he arrived in Waitsburg at about 1 p.m. last Thursday and was busy shooting photos around town until the light was gone at about 8:30 p.m. He said he covered a lot of ground in the little town and even got to take a swim and cool off at the Waitsburg City Pool. He spent a lot of the day walk- ing up and down the street shooting storefronts.

For the photo shoot, the businesses packed people in - especially at the Anchor Bar where there were 30 people, Reamer said. He enjoyed lunch at La Monarca and dinner at jimgermanbar and rested his head for the night at the Seven Porches Guest House. He remarked on the friendly greetings he received around town from people he had never met before.

"They just treated me really well," Reamer said. "Everybody was great and way more so than Portland."

He said the writer of the article is likely someone from Seattle or Walla Walla who stumbled upon the town. He said the article will likely run in the November edition of Food & Wine Magazine.
