Columbia County Fair Sept. 7-9 Columbia County Fairgrounds Enjoy the annual fair with the theme Treasure Chest of Columbia County's Best. There will be plenty of animals, a rodeo and lots of vendors and entertainment.
Pond & Garden Tour 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Walla Walla Area
Walla Walla Commu- nity Hospice will host its 11th annual Pond and Garden Tour. This hospice fundraising event is a self- guided tour of 10 gardens in the Walla Walla area. It is a delightful tour of unique and creative gar- dens incorporating ponds, creeks and other water features! Tickets for this event include a tour map and provide entrance to all 10 gardens. Other features will include a raffle for pond and garden acces- sories, featured vendors of garden art, musicians, and "Artists in the Garden". Cost is $20 per person. Tickets may be purchased at Bright's Candies & Gifts, 11 E. Main Street or at the WWCH Office at 1067 Isaacs Avenue. Tick- ets may also be mailed for credit card orders placed by phone to (509) 525- 5561 ($2 per order shipping and handling). This year marks the 30th anniversary of Banned Books Week and the theme is 30 years of Liberating Literature. Banned Books Week is the only national celebration of the freedom to read.
It was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries.
More than 11,000 books have been chal- lenged since 1982. Celebrate by picking up a challenged book at your library today!
