FREE SHOOTING DAYS DAYTON - The Columbia County Shooting Association will be offering free days to sight in your rifles in preparation for the coming hunting season at no cost to the public. Free days will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 15, from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 23 and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sept. 24. CHRISTIAN WOMEN'S LUNCHEON DAYTON - Christian Women's Connection invites you to attend their luncheon to be held at the 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Sept. 12 at the Asian Grill, 525 West Main Street in Dayton. Kari Kelli is the manager of Christ Kitchen a Christ-centered, non-denominational ministry providing work, job training, discipleship and support for women living in poverty in the Spokane area. SENIOR CENTER OFFERS LUNCH DAYTON - The Columbia County Senior Center will continue to offer lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. for $4 per senior and $7 for non-seniors. Before lunch, the center offers music and games and the lunches consist of good filling meals. The menu schedule is available at the cen- ter. Thursday, Sept. 6, the center will serve baked pork chops, oven-browned potatoes, broccoli/cauliflower and applesauce pudding. The center is also working to collect school supplies for local students and currently needs gently used backpacks to donate to the school.
GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP DAYTON - Teeny McMunn will be leading a second grief support group in Dayton from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tues- day, Sept. 11, at the Congregational Church at 214 S. Third Street in Dayton. The group will meet for ten weeks and will follow the Walla Walla Hospice format working with the book "Un- derstanding Your Grief." Anyone struggling with grief is invited to consider joining the group. Signing up in advance is recommended. For more information, call McMunn at 386- 5287. McMunn also leads a group that meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays at the Congregational Church. The group has already worked through the book and is open to anyone interested in joining them.
CHARITIES NOW FIVE YEARS OLD DAYTON -- Main Street Dayton Charities is now cel- ebrating five years of service. This charity was incorpo- rated on August 31, 2007 for two purposes -- to provide a location for Dayton St. Vincent de Paul and Project Timothy and other qualified charities to conduct their charitable services, and to work for the financial secu- rity of these two charities and other qualified charities that could be accommodated at the same location. The charitable work is to provide a location, a campus for non-profit services at 247 Main Street, Dayton primarily for St. Vincent de Paul and Project Timothy. St. Vincent de Paul operates a thrift store and gives funds to needy residents of the county directly and through Project Timothy. In 2011, St. Vincent de Paul donated $14,900 to Project Timothy and an additional $16,400 so far in 2012. Project Timothy distributed $69,500 to the needy in 2011, and as of September 2012 they have distributed an additional $50,189. Both charities have served area residents for more than 20 years.
DRIVE HAMMERED, GET NAILED WALLA WALLA -- The results are in from the recent Drive Hammered, Get Nailed enforcement campaign conducted from Aug. 17 through Sept. 3. In Walla Walla, Asotin and Garfield Counties, 22 motorists were stopped and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (DUI), and statewide, law enforcement officers arrested 1,603 drivers for DUI. Last year in Walla Walla, Asotin and Garfield Counties, during the same time peri- od, officers on routine and extra patrols arrested 30 people for DUI. In Walla Walla, Asotin and Garfield Counties, the Clarkston and Walla Walla Police Departments, the Garfield County Sheriff's Office and the Washington State Patrol participated in the extra DUI patrols, with the sup- port of the Walla Walla County Traffic Safety Task Force.
ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT BREAKFAST PRESCOTT -- An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be available from 8 to 11 a.m., this Saturday and Sunday at the Prescott Lions Hall. The meal is $6 per person. Regu- lar breakfast will be offered as well as Mexican-themed menu items will be served this month. All are welcome.
FARMERS MARKET CLOSING DAYTON - The Dayton Farmers Market will close for the summer on Saturday, Sept. 29. Anyone interested in vending before the market closes is invited to come out and partici- pate. Until it closes, the market will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the patio outside of the Dayton Depot.
LIBERTY THEATER DINNER, MOVIE DAYTON - The Liberty Theater will host dinner and a movie at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21. The film "To Rome With Love" will play after an authentic Italian meal including ap- petizers, dessert, wine and other beverages before the 7:30 p.m. movie. Tickets are $25 and include a meal, drinks and admission to the film. The romantic comedy stars Woody Allen and is set in Italy. Tickets can be purchased online at libertytheater.org or at the box office.
