Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
DAYTON -- The Dayton volleyball squad stumbled out of the gate in its open- ing week of the season losing to non-league opponents Garfield-Palouse and Pomeroy, but ended on the upswing with a second place finish at the Waitsburg-Prescott tournament Saturday.
Dayton's Lady Bulldogs fought hard but were unable to win the four-game set against the Garfield-Palouse Vikings Tuesday, Sept. 11, in Palouse. The Bulldogs kept the scores close, but ultimately couldn't secure the win, walking away with only one win of the four games. The final scores for the games were, 25-23, Gar-Pal, 25-22, Gar-Pal, 23-22, Dayton and 19-23, Gar-Pal.
Dayton attempted to re- bound from its slow start with an appearance at the 8-team Waitsburg-Prescott volleyball tournament Saturday. The Bulldogs were slotted into the Prescott pool for round robin play along with St. John-Endicott, Touchet, and the Colfax JV.
Dayton's first match was a morning tilt with Touchet. The Lady Dogs came out strong in set one with a 25-12 victory, then let the second slip away to Touchet 23-25. The Dogs ral- lied for the match victory in the third set by a score 15-8.
Dayton's second match was a mirror image-meaning reversed image-of its first. The Bulldogs lost the opening set St. John-Endicott badly, 10-25, before rallying to take set two 25-22. But Dayton couldn't close the deal in set three fall- ing 10-15.
At 1-win, 1-loss the Bulldogs third game became a must win if they wanted to advance to the championship bracket in the late afternoon at Waitsburg.
