Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
DAYTON - The Dayton volleyball team had a tough week, losing three matches in a row to three different teams.
The Lady Bulldogs took on the Asotin Panthers last Tuesday, Sept. 25, in Dayton and played through the whole five-game match before ultimately falling.
In game one, the Bulldogs were communicating and garnered enough momentum to hold the Panthers for a final score of 25-18, Dayton. Despite great communication, there were still some gaps the Bulldogs were sluggish to fill when the ball moved into weaker areas.
In game two, the Bulldogs beat the Panthers again, 25-17. The Bulldogs started to pick up speed and energy, cheered on by a large crowd that included most of the football team and some of the soccer team. The Panthers left a lot of open floor for the Bulldogs to hit the ball to.
In game three, the Panthers won, 27-25, despite slowing down and looking tired on the court. The final point of the game was disputed after being scored when the ball ricocheted off of a Panther athlete's face and back into Bulldog territory.
In game four, the Bulldogs started to slow down and the Panthers took the opportunity to pounce, winning the game, 25-11.
The Panthers rounded out the match, winning game five, 15-9, and taking home the win for the night.
McKayla Bickelhaupt was 23-for-23 at the service line with eight kills and 12 digs. Chelsea Wooldridge went 16-for-16 at the service line with 14 assists. Bickelhaupt had eight digs and went eight-for-eight at the service line. Tate went nine-for- nine at the service line. Madison Mings had 11 blocks.
"We didn't play well," head coach Shannon Turner said of the game against the TigerScots. "(We) couldn't get our offense rolling, the only momentum we had going at the net was our blocks from (Madison) Mings."
Turner said the Bulldogs need to be more aggressive hitters while working on being more consistent and working as a team.
