Knights Slash Dogs, 5-1

WALLAWALLA - The Dayton Bulldogs soccer team played a tough match against the Walla Walla Valley Academy Knights on Wednesday, Sept. 19, ultimately falling 5-1 to the Knights.

The Bulldogs had a game scheduled against Riverside on Saturday, Sept. 22, but the game was canceled due to the smoke in the air.

Head coach DJ Frame said the Knights were aggressive and spread the ball around to a number of players so there was no one person for the Bulldogs to cover to take over the game.

"Once we adjusted to a heavier defensive unit, we held our own pretty well," Frame said. "I have to give credit to our forwards who continued to battle and got the one goal in."

Frame said the Knights put on a lot of pressure, forcing the Bulldogs to play strong defense.

The Bulldogs were able to score one goal, keeping the game from being a shutout.

Brian Mascall was the sole scorer for the Bulldogs. Frame said the team took several shots but Mascall was the only one who connected with the net.

Frame said he gave the Knights credit for their quick application of pressure to the forwards when the Bulldogs were able to move the ball onto the Knights' half of the field.

"As a coach, what I'm most proud of is even though we were down, the team continued to play from beginning to end," Frame said.

Frame said the JV team also played hard during the JV game against the Knights. The JV team is composed mostly of freshmen, Frame said, but despite the loss to the Knights, the team worked hard.
