Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
COLLEGE PLACE - The WP volleyball team traveled to College Place for its only match of the week and fell to the Walla Walla Valley Academy Knights in four sets.
The teams were evenly matched in the first set, but the Cardinals couldn't close the deal losing, 23-25. WP squared the match with a convincing, 25-18, victory in set two. But the Cardinals couldn't sustain the momentum. The Knights reeled off victories in the next two sets by the same scores 18 and 25, 18 and 25.
"Overall our play has improved," WP coach Angie Potts said lauding her squad. "And we're making a better effort on defense."
But there are still things the second year coach wants team to focus more attention on.
"We still need to work on our communication and not playing as individuals when things aren't going well," said Potts.
Samantha Federson, Rhiannon Chapman and Krystal Harris led the Cardinals with nearly identical dig totals. Federson dug 22 balls, Chapman 21 and Harris 20 on the night. Harris led the team in kills with 15 and Analise Salazar topped the squad with 17 assists. The loss drops the Cardinals to 4-4 overall, 0-2 in league play.
WP's next match is a rivalry showdown with Dayton on Thursday.
