PRESCOTT - The Prescott School Board last week appointed a new school board member for area no. 4, Ada Gonzalez- Hernandez.
"We look forward to working with Ada as she joins the Prescott School Board representing Director District no. 4," Super- intendent Bill Jordan said. "Ada not only brings the experience and dedication of her involvement in the Vista Hermosa commu- nity, but also brings the important perspective of a parent with four children in the school system."
Gonzalez-Hernandez, in her interview with the school board last Thurs- day, said she is a mother of five children who lives in Vista Hermosa.
"It's a safe haven for me and my kids," she said.
She grew up in the area and said she appreciated the opportunities she obtained in a smaller school and community.
"It was a good expe- rience to grow up in a smaller school," she said.
Gonzalez-Hernandez said small schools, like Prescott, have more to of- fer children.
She admitted she hasn't been involved in youth programs, but some of her children play soccer and she enjoys being an active parent.
"I want to be more in- volved in my community," she said.
Gonzalez-Hernandez has worked at Vista Her- mosa Elementary for nine years and has the knowl- edge of how schools are run. She believes she can be asset as a school board member in her area.
"I speak their language and I live where they live," she said. "I'm ready to make the commitment."
As a board member, she said she would like to reach out to better educate parents of what their kids' education means and the requirements. She would also like to encourage par- ents to be more involved in their children's' lives and to encourage them more.
