MILITARY TRAINING GRADUATE WAITSBURG -- Air Force Airman First Class Ryan A. Mason graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The air- man completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic train- ing earn four credits toward an associate in applied sci- ence degree through the community college of the Air Force. Mason is the son of Gerald and Kathy Mason of West Seventh Street, Waitsburg. He is a 2009 graduate of Waitsburg High School.
COMMERCIAL CLUB MEETING WAITSBURG -- The next Commercial Club meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 16, at Waitsburg Town Hall. This meeting will be a Candidates' Forum.
FOOD BANK NEEDS FOOD WAITSBURG - The Waitsburg Resource Center is in need of food donations. The center is located at 106 Preston Avenue in Waitsburg (in the AmericanWest Bank building). It is open Saturdays, 9-11 a.m. and Thursdays, 2-4 p.m.
SKATE PARK TO STAY OPEN DAYTON - The Dayton City Council moved Monday night to table discussion about the skate park and extend the opening of the skate park until further notice. Councilwoman Delphine Bailey said she has heard unsolicited input from parents and students and thanked the council for reopening the park. City Clerk-Treasurer Trina Cole said several issues with the park have been addressed, in- cluding chaining the garbage cans to the fence. The coun- cil was unanimous in the decision to leave the park open.
CEMETERY FIREARMS BAN REPEALED DAYTON - The City Council moved to repeal sec- tion 4.168 of the Dayton Municipal Code, which banned firearms from the cemetery. The code, which was contra- dictory to the second amendment, was repealed unani- mously. It is still against the municipal code to discharge firearms within city limits, which includes the cemetery.
CHRISTIAN WOMEN'S LUNCHEON POMEROY -- Christian Women's Connection invites you to attend its luncheon to be held at the Pataha Flour Mill, 50 Hutchens Hill Road, Pomeroy. DANCE AUDITIONS WALLA WALLA -- The Walla Walla Symphony, The Dance Center and The Eugene Ballet will hold dance audi- tions for young dancers for the Dec. 15 performances of the Nutcracker at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Cordiner Hall in Walla Walla. Auditions are on Sunday, Oct. 21, beginning at 1 p.m. at The Dance Center, 129 E. Alder, Suite B in Walla Walla. There is a $5 audition fee. Auditions are for: Waltz of the Flowers, 1 - 2 p.m. (3 years pointe experience required); Party Children 2 - 3:30 p.m. (ages 11-15); Cavalry 3:30 - 4 p.m. (ages 11 and up); Dragons 4 - 4:30 p.m. (ages 10 - 13); Lady Bugs 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. (ages 9 - 11); Angels 5:30 - 6 p.m. (ages 7 - 9); and Baby Mice 6 - 6:30 p.m. (ages 5 - 7). All students audition in flat technique shoes except "Waltz of the Flowers" who audition on pointe. Students should arrive at least 20 minutes prior to audition time to fill out registra- tion forms. Girls should wear class uniform, or a solid colored leotard, pink tights and pink ballet shoes, and hair should be secured in a bun. Boys should wear white T-shirt, black tights and black ballet shoes. Rehearsals will be on Saturdays, 3 - 6 p.m., at The Dance Center, 129 E. Alder, Suite B in Walla Walla with Idalee Hut- son-Fish. Dress rehearsal is Friday, December 14 at Cordiner Hall with the Eugene Ballet and Walla Walla Symphony.
