SPOKANE - The Tigers handily won their first loser- out playoff game last Tuesday against Northport in Spokane, 7-0.
The Tigers advance in playoffs and will compete at 2 p.m. Friday in Prescott against the winner of the Glenwood/Trout Lake and Northwest Christian game.
The Tigers' assistant coach Jay Potts said the team's performance was a great comeback from last Saturday's game against Northwest Christian, which the Tigers lost, 6-1.
"We played well," Potts said of Tuesday's game. "We played much better than Saturday."
He added Tuesday's game was great because it gave the subs lots of player time and gave the starters a rest.
The first goal was made for the Tigers on Tuesday in the fifth minute by Ernesto Valdovinos, assisted by Lino Diaz. The second goal was made in the ninth minute by Jesse Albarran and assisted by Rodrigo Gonzalez. The third goal was made in the 22nd minute by Jonny Escalante, assisted by Diaz. The fourth goal was made in the 24th minute by Abraham Sanchez and assisted by Diaz. The fifth goal was made in the 31st minute by Valdovinos and assisted by Gonzalez.
The score at halftime was, 5-0, Tigers.
The sixth goal was scored in the 45th minute and was a penalty shot by Diaz. Potts said the team pokes fun at Diaz for not making those shots typically and his successful shot on Tuesday was outstanding.
"It was a good boost," Potts said.
The final goal was made in the 59th minute by Gonzalez and assisted by Luis Garcia.
Antonio Benito was keeper and had a shutout and two saves, Potts said. The Tigers had 51 shots on goal throughout the game.
Missing key players on Saturday and "not playing like a team" contributed to the Tigers' loss against Northwest Christian School's soccer team last Saturday in Colbert, 6-1.
Tigers' assistant coach Jay Potts said his team on Saturday just didn't play well.
"We were missing two of our defensive starters and middle starter," Potts added.
The defenders were out sock and the middle starter is out with an injury, he said.
The one goal the Tigers scored against Northwest Christian was made by freshman Rodrigo Gonzalez in the 35th minute. Potts said his team simply wasn't playing as one unit on Saturday and didn't adjust to the differences playing in the Spokane area can create.
