Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

Best Western On Schedule

DAYTON - Dayton's new Best Western located on the north corner of Main Street and Fourth Street is progressing on schedule so far, with its completion projected for late February or early March if the crew can continue to avoid any major delays or setbacks.

The hotel project broke ground during All-Wheels Weekend on June 16.

Groups of about a handful of locals led by Project Manager Fred Smith toured the building on Thursday, Nov. 1, throughout the day, checking out room layouts and swatch boards with sample colors, fabrics and tiles for the hotel. Farmhouse motifs will be pulled through the hotel with warm, rustic colors and some antique chairs.

The color scheme is rich with rusty orange, navy blue, wheat yellow and chocolate brown. Smith also showed tour groups pictures of colorful antique tractor seats that will be in the hotel rooms.

The hotel will be a Best Western Plus, meaning it will have more amenities than a standard Best Western.

"Our interior design firm has down a fantastic job," Smith said.

The hotel will be complete with high speed wireless Internet with options to hardwire in, two sizes of king size rooms along with full and queen-size rooms, a business area, a boardroom and a meeting room.

"We're doing a lot of things you won't find in Walla Walla," Smith said.

The hotel will be built with an oversized lobby and extra space so the hotel could expand from 50 rooms to 74 at some point in the future.

The hotel will also have a swimming pool and hot tub. During an afternoon tour, one citizen on the tour, Lisa Naylor, asked if the pool would be accessible to the public. Naylor said she would appreciate having access to a pool locally instead of leaving town to swim.

Smith said there has been a lot of talk about whether or not the public will be allowed open access to the pool. Smith said the topic has been widely discussed and no decision has been reached yet.
