Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
WAITSBURG -- As Waitsburg-Prescott's football squad continues its sojourn toward the ultimate honor of a repeat state title, five Cardinals garnered individual honors this past week by being named to the Southeast 2B All-League Team.
Chance Leroue and Ben Shafer earned all- league offensive honors- Leroue at tight end and Shafer on the offensive line. Danny Stansell and Roy Ebong were chosen all-league defenders- Stansell at linebacker and Ebong at defensive back.
Leroue and Stansell were two of only three sophomores named to the all- league squad. Ebong and Shafer are seniors.
Curiously, Dalton Estes was not named all- league receiver, running back, defensive back, punter, or kicker. Instead the senior, who is the league's statistical leader at nearly every position he plays, was named the conference's top all-purpose player.
Dayton also left its paw print on the all-league squad. Senior lineman Alex Naylor was the only Bulldog named to the offensive squad. The hard-hitting trio of Wyatt Frame, Kane Hackett, and Lowden Smith were named to the defensive team. Hackett, a senior, plays line, Smith, a junior, linebacker, and Frame, a senior, defensive back.
The rest of the offensive team included: DeSales' quarterback Jeremiah Cox, running back Luke Fazzari, receivers Joe Duehn and Ryan Baumgart, and lineman Tim Caudille; Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia's running back Craig Nelson, receiver Clay Shelton, and offensive lineman Josh Roe; Tri- Cities Prep running back Bailey Rivas; and Asotin offensive lineman Ian Hurst.
Others making all- league defense were: DeSales' defensive back Kyler Pommerening and lineman Cody Josifek; Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia's defensive back Zane Brown, linebacker Tyler Hanson, and lineman Max Mueller; Tri-Cities Prep linebacker Briar Westerfield; and Asotin's defensive back Ryan Schaefer and defensive lineman Cody Koch.
Asotin's Dayton Krull earned all-league punter honors, and DeSales' Mike Speiss was named coach of the year.
