Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
WALLA WALLA - The Lady Cardinals easily got the upper hand against Valley Christian 56-20 at the D.A. Davidson Christmas Classic hosted by the DeSales over the holidays, but they couldn't subdue Weston-McEwen and were badly bruised by Touchet.
Stacia Deal scored 13 points against Valley Chris- tian, followed by Chelsey Brannock with 10, and Krystal Harris and Samantha Fedderson each with 6. Waits- burg-Prescott took an early lead, putting away 15 points against 4 from their oppo- nents and the trend continued through the game with the Cards leading 32 - 12 at halftime, 46 - 16 at the end of the third quarter and racking up a free-throw average of 56 percent.
In the game against the Weston-McEwen, it looked like the Cards were set to run off with the game, outscoring the Tigerscots 12-7 in the first and leading 22-19 by halftime. But the Tigerscots led W-P by a slim 1-point margin at 33-32 and were outscored 21-8 in the final quarter for an ultimate score of 54-40 in favor of Weston-McEwen.
Katie Hofer lit up the score board with 12, followed by Brannock and Deal each with 6, and Enedina Fuentes with 5.
It was Touchet that grabbed and sustained the early lead in the Cards' final tourney game, leading W-P 13-6 in the first and 25-8 by halftime. The Indians kept the Cards to a mere 2 points in the second quarter. In the second half, W-P's scoring equaled that of Touchet but trailed 11-9 in the fourth, leaving the Indians victorious at 42-23.
Harris led the Cards' scor- ing drive with 9, followed by Fuentes with 4, Brannock and Fedderson each with 3.
