WALLA WALLA, ASOTIN AND GARFIELD COUNTIES -- The results are in from the recent Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over DUI enforcement campaign conducted from November 21, 2012 through January 1, 2013.
In Walla Walla, Asotin and Garfield Counties 21 mo- torists were stopped and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (DUI), and statewide, law enforcement officers arrested 3446 drivers for DUI. Last year in Walla Walla, Asotin and Garfield Counties, during the same time period, officers on routine and extra patrols arrested 47 people for DUI. In Columbia County from Nov. 21, 2012 to Jan. 1, 2013 there were no DUI arrests. In Columbia County from Nov. 23, 2011 to Jan 2, 2012 there were 5 DUI arrests.
In Walla Walla, Asotin and Garfield Counties, the Aso- tin, Clarkston, College Place, and Walla Walla Police De- partments, the Walla Walla and Garfield County Sheriff's Offices and the Washington State Patrol participated in the extra DUI patrols, with the support of the Walla Walla County Traffic Safety Task Force. The extra patrols were funded by a grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.
The Holiday season is an important time for these patrols, given the number of Holiday festivities that often involve alcohol.
