Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
WAITSBURG -- Stu- dents at Waitsburg Middle School are baring their talents on the stage to raise money to help a local family after they lost their home in a fire.
Students in Maddy Martin's citizenship class stepped up to support the Brooks family with two fun- draisers, after the family lost their home.
Students Timber Froh- reich and Zach Hebbard said they started with "hats for home," a fundraiser the class did before, which allowed students to pay $1 to wear a baseball-style hat at school. The last time students did the fundraiser, it was called "hats for hunger" and raised about $50 for the food bank, Martin said.
Frohreich said she thought the fundraiser was successful despite not know- ing how much money was raised during the school day.
The students will host a talent show fundraiser at 7 p.m. April 13, in the Waits- burg high school auditorium. Middle school performers will put on a show for the community to help raise money for the Brooks fam- ily. Frohreich said there would be singers, dancers and performers on stage for the fundraiser.
"We are hoping to get at least 20 acts from within the middle school," Frohreich said.
Admission for the show will be a cash donation.
The class is also collecting desserts to sell at the silent dessert auction. Hebbard said they would be accepting any kind of baked goods as long as they weren't made with peanuts.
"The silent dessert auction winners will be announced at intermission, " Hebbard said.
Hebbard said Tyler Brooks has been a good friend so he and Frohreich wanted to give something back to a family that has been faced with many strug- gles in the past few years.
"A little town like Waits- burg, I'm sure there are a lot of good people who can help (the Brooks family) out," Hebbard said.
