County to Hold Meeting with Sheriff Candidates

DAYTON - The Columbia County Commis- sioners have scheduled a special meeting Thurs- day evening to interview and allow the public to meet the two candidates being considered to replace to replace retiring sheriff Walt Hessler.

Rocky Miller and Jeffrey Jenkins will take questions from the commissioners and the public at 7 p.m. in the main courtroom on the second floor of the Columbia County Courthouse.

Miller has been a trooper with the Washing- ton State Patrol for more than 25 years. He has lived in Columbia County and Served in South- east Washington for most of his career. Jenkins is a Columbia County Sheriff's Deputy.

Hessler announced his resignation in January, to be effective June 30. Since he was elected as a Republican, the Columbia County Republican Party began the process of finding his replacement.

The party reported that five people showed interest in the position, but only Miller and Jen- kins formally applied.

The public is invited to attend Thursday's meeting and meet the candidates.
