Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
WAITSBURG - Tickets are on sale for a hometown dance concert by a hometown band.
The members of the popular Frog Hollow Band have agreed to perform Saturday evening, May 18, during the Waitsburg Celebration mark- ing the 100th anniversary of the Days of Real Sport racing weekend.
The concert is a collaboration of the Waitsburg PEO chapter, the Waitsburg Lions Club and the band, whose members live in Waitsburg, Prescott and Walla Walla. It's a fundraiser for PEO, which promotes education for women.
"When we learned noth- ing was scheduled for that Saturday night, we saw a need to provide entertain- ment and get some positive PR for our organizations," said PEO member Wendy Richards, whose husband Brian is the band's drummer and a Waitsburg Lion.
The concert, which is for patrons 21 or older because of the Lions' alcohol sales, will start at 9 pm and last at least until midnight at the Don Thomas building at the Waitsburg Fairgrounds. It will follow dinner at the Li- ons Club building. The dinner is open to all ages, Richards said.
The Don Thomas build- ing will have some seating, but there will be plenty of room to dance as concertgoers are apt to do during a Frog Hollow performance. The concert is a chance for many Waitsburgers to meet the band's new lead singer, Shane Ugalde, who recently replaced Nick Berg.
Aside from Ugalde and Brian Richards, the band includes lead guitarist Ty Lane, bass player Jim Pearson, rhythm guitarist Kit Lane and instrumentalist Jerry Yokel.
Richards said she hopes the band's performance on the Saturday night of the Days of Real Sport weekend can become a tradition.
"We don't know how successful it will be this first time around," she said. "It would be fabulous if it worked out."
Ticket are on sale at Waitsburg Grocery and from Waitsburg PEO members, including Richards, Beth Ann Woods, Anne Walsh, Cathy Payne, Krista McKin- ley, Anne Miller, Anita Bak- er, Loretta McCaw, Laura Jean Hevel, Barb Knopp and Lori Bartlow.
