Bettie Lloyd Chase

Bettie Lloyd Chase passed away on April 20, 2013 at the Book- er Rest Home. She was born March 20, 1920 in Waits- burg, WA to Ralph G. Lloyd and Jessie Conrad Lloyd.

Bettie lived her entire life in the Waitsburg area and had a deep understanding of the area and a great appreciation for the residents of the Touchet Valley. As a young child, she grew up on Jasper Mountain before the fam- ily moved to Waitsburg. She attended Waitsburg schools graduating in 1938. In 1941, she married Berger Chase, and they had one daughter, Sally Chase Baker.

Bettie was always a pres- ence in Waitsburg. Although many remember her for her forty years working at The Waitsburg Times, she was in- volved in many community activities.

She was a life member of P.T.A and was awarded the Golden Acorn Award. She was a member and past matron of Waitsburg Chap- ter No. 9 O.E.S. serving 50 years as secretary. She was one of the original founders of the Waitsburg Histori- cal Society. She served on the Waitsburg City Coun- cil for 8 years. She was a member and three-term past president of Commer- cial Club and chaired the Hometown Christmas event for many years. As a mem- ber of the Waitsburg High School Alumni Association, she missed only one alumni banquet since graduating in 1920. She served for many years as the corresponding secretary of the group and kept close track of Waitsburg graduates.

Community awards in- clude Citizen of the Year in 1990, Parade Marshall in 1998 and Pioneer of the Year in 2003.

She is survived by her daughter, Sally Chase Baker and son-in-law Glenn Baker of Austin, MN; grandson Geoff Baker (Diane) and great grandsons Andrew and Sean Baker also of Austin, MN and niece Janice Lloyd Eastman of Spokane. She is preceded in death by husband Berger Chase, granddaughter Bar- bara Baker, brothers Albert Lloyd and John Lloyd, and half-sister Beatrice Pugh.

Graveside services will be held in the Waitsburg City Cemetery at 11 A.M. Wednesday with Pastor Mike Ferrians Officiating and Ritualistic services by the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #9, luncheon will follow at the Ole Town Hall.
