Softball: DeSales over WP 8-1 / 8-0
PRESCOTT - DeSales knocked the WP softball team out of first place in league standings Tuesday, with an 8-1 victory over the Tigers in the first game of a double-header.
Sam Moss scored the only Tiger run with a solo home run.
"We started light, but went on to play well," said WP coach Angie Potts. "DeSales is a good team. They hit the ball well and run aggressively. We need to be ready for that."
Potts said she still felt good about the game. "I'm not disappointed in how they played. Other than the first two innings, we played well. Once we relaxed we played pretty even."
In the late game, the tigers were shut out 8-0.
Now WP's girls have to win at least one of the two upcoming games with Asotin in order to hang onto second place.
Baseball: Desales over WP 14-0 / 17-2
PRESCOTT - Injuries plagued the Tiger hardballers as they got steamrolled by DeSales in Tuesday's first game.
WP's only catcher, Tucker Alleman was hit in the face by a ball during warm-ups before the game. He had stitches for a split lip and was unable to play. Chance Leroue, with virtually no catching experience, filled in.
Regular second-baseman Kyle Dozier also missed the game, because of a hyper-extended knee he suffered in Dayton last week.
Dalton Estes pitched the first three innings and gave up seven runs. Talen Larsen pitched the fourth and fifth innings, giving up seven more. The game was ended after five, by the mercy rule.
In the Second game, the Tiger boys again got "ten- runned" after five innings, with a 17-2 loss to the Irish.
WP over Touchet 8-2
PRESCOTT - WP boys had a much better game Thursday, with an 8-2 win over the Touchet Indians. Three Tiger pitchers combined for a five-hitter, while the tigers got 11 hits of their own.
Talen Larson picked up his fourth win of the season, allowing only one hit in four innings.
WP is now 12-5, and 7-3 in league play.
