Waitsburg Gears Up for Celebration Days

WAITSBURG - Cowgirl Ranch Racing is the signature event this year for Waitsburg's Celebration Days, May 17-May 19 in Waitsburg. The City of Waitsburg, local Commercial Club and Blue Mountain RC&D Council plus many volunteers are finalizing events for a weekend of family fun and a celebration of horses. Cowgirl ranch racing begins at 1 pm on Saturday, May 18 (it's going to BLAST!) running until 4 pm. The first place purse is at least $400! 2nd and 3rd places purses depend on the total number of entries.

All horses must be sound, well-mannered, experienced and confident stock, ranch or using horses. Race horses of any kind will not be permitted. All riders must sign a notarized statement declaring they are at least 18 years old, assuming all risks and responsibilities for their safety, their horses and property. Since most horses may not be sufficiently legged- up to run the full length of the track; for the riders and horses safety, the start will likely be led by a pace horse, leading the field with a half- mile warm-up, then peeling away to allow a flying start with all-out galloping to the finish line.

Mayor Walt Gobel is "thrilled with the efforts of my many volunteers," he said. "We will have something for everybody, so please come and join the fun!"

The Race Committee clarifies the advertisements in the Giant Nickel and Waitsburg Times for Cowgirl Ranch Racing. Entry fees are at $40 for the afternoon or $30 if paid by May 3. The entry fee is good for racing all afternoon. Purses will be available for final heat winners (up to $400 or more); the amounts based on the total number of entries.

Entry forms are available at Blue Crystal Printing or at the event. The event will also host mutton busting, limited to the first 11 entries.
