Dayton Students Take Advantage of Running Start Program

DAYTON - Graduates, families, teachers, administrators and the Dayton community concluded a successful Commencement of the DHS Class of 2013 last Saturday, June 8 at the high school gym.

Thousands of scholarship dollars and recognitions were awarded to the graduates, including several to achievers from DHS Class of 2012.

Three students from this year's graduating class are deserving of recognition for their hard work and academic dedication as Running Start students.

Marshall Nechodom and Andre Fayette have been Running Start students since 2012 and 2011, respectively. Both students will continue their studies at Walla Walla Community College this fall as they pursue Associates of Arts degree.

Alex Naylor also received his DHS diploma and was the only DHS student to have successfully completed his Associates of Arts degree this June. He completed 93 credits since fall 2011. He will be attending Western Washington University in Bellingham this fall.

Running Start is a program targeting motivated, successful high school students who can earn college credit at local Community Colleges. Adopted and supported by the Washington Legislature, students who earn college credit are transferable to four-year university's in Washington. Students who earn 90 credits can transfer to a major Washington State university as a junior. The potential tuition cost savings are substantial.
