Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
The Snake River is probably the most attractive place in the Columbia basin during the 4th of July weekend. My family, some friends and I chose to head to Lyons Ferry on Thursday with our boat.
As we pulled into the marina, passing by the full campground and line of boat trailers, it appeared as if their might be more than a couple of boats on the river. After launching and heading across the Snake over to the park, it appeared as if the other side of the river was also affected by the rising mercury. We docked the boat and were able to find a table and "set up shop" for the afternoon.
After everything was in order at the park it seemed as if the general consensus was to "Go Tubing!" So we set sail for open water. Once we were out of the no-wake zone it was time tohellip;. make some wakes.
The general idea of tubing isn't too different from rid- ing bulls, you try and hold on as long as you can, Except the 2,000 pound bull is replaced by a 10 pound tube (when aired to full capacity) and "horsepower." One thing that was surprising was that once out on the river there weren't too many boats. The few boats that were on the river seemed to be having fun pulling tubes, boarders and skiers.
After some tubing action we headed back in to the park. Once we got there we ate some dinner and relaxed for a while before heading over to the marina to watch the firework show which started around 9:30 and lasted until about 10. It's an excellent show and it's the perfect spot to have one, since the fireworks are launched off the dock and are surrounded by water. It was a good way to end the night with a bang!
