Lightning: Beauty and the Beast

Many area residents enjoyed the magnificent lightning displays - like the one showcased in the shot above, taken near Lyons Ferry - that rolled in with Saturday night's storm. Local farmers, however, fail to find pleasure. Bolts touched down on fields across the valley, setting off a string of fires that kept firefighters on the run. The McCaw family lost "a bunch" of unharvested wheat in this field along Bolles Road.
