Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
DAYTON - After a week of losses, the Dayton Bulldogs prevailed over their cross-valley rivals, the WP Cardinals in 3, but the Waitburg Prescott team had to go without two of its starters.
The Bulldogs won 25-9, 25-8 and 25-17 in a victory head coach Shannon Turner attributed to "better passes, communication, teamwork" and fewer unforced errors which all "gave us another win. Effort was made by all."
WP head coach Angie Potts said freshmen Jade Alleman and Taylor Hayes "filled in at middle blocker and did really well."
Potts said Alleman is getting better at blocking and building her confidence as a hitter, while Hayes "is aggressive in the back and also working on her front row play."
Mikala DeRuwe filled in at the last minute on the outside for WP and "overcame some nervousness to give us some good passes by the second set," Potts said.
Dayton's Madison Mings led to attack against the Cardinals with 14 kills, 2 blocks and 8 digs. Sarah Phillips posted 16 digs and went 12 for 13 serving. Courtney Mings had 8 digs and was 17 for 18 serving. Lexi Ramirez registered 6 digs, 4 kills and went 9 for 10 from the line.
On the WP side, Paige Wood had 14 digs, 4 kills and 2 blocks. Jaidyn Brown went for 6 assists and 5 digs. Enedina Fuentes had 7 digs and 3 aces, while Jade Alleman had 3 kills and 4 blocks.
