Eight Cardinals Make All-League

WAITSBURG - The Southeast 2B Football League named its all-league team last week, and it included eight Waitsburg- Prescott players. WP coach Jeff Bartlow praised those players, whom he called a "great bunch of guys. The seniors alone have never NOT won the league title," he said. "They only know how to winhellip;.winning is a habit at this point and an expectation."

WP had the most players on the list, followed by Tri- Cities Prep and Asotin, with seven players each.

Following is the list of WP's All-League players, with Bartlow's comments on each.

Offense:

Chance Leroue, junior, running back: "Chance, a team captain, is a three year starter and has now rushed for 1,035 yards in 9 games. He has 19 catches for 205 yards as well. He leads our team with 18 touchdowns, 13 via the run."

Devin Acevedo, junior, wide receiver: "Devin leads our team in receptions with 40 catches for 582 yards and five receiving touchdowns and two rushing."

Nate Bartlow, senior, offensive guard: "Nate is our left side guard and has had a great year in the trenches. Probably our best pass blocker on the team; solid on both offense and defense."

Nick Pearson, senior, center: "Nick is a three year starter at Center and has started 36 games in a row at center. He is the QB of the OL and has improved each year. He is a captain and a great leader."

Defense & special teams:

Dalton Larue, senior, defensive end: "Dalton can play a lot of positions on defense, but DE is his natural spot. Plays with a lot of heart and can play the run and the pass both effectively."

Michael Grant, junior, linebacker: "Mike leads our team in tackles with 97 (37 solo) and averages 10.8 tackles per game. He is one of my best LB's I have ever hadhellip;.a natural and comes to play every night."

Talen Larsen, junior, defensive back: "Talen plays much bigger than he is at 143 pounds. He has had three games in double digit tackles and that is hard to do at safety. He is third on our team in tackles at 7.4 tackles per game."

Antonio Benito, sophomore, kicker: "Antonio had a great year at kicker. Kicked into the endzone for touchbacks four times and consistently kicks inside the 10 yard line. He is a great kicker in terms of us getting good field position. He also has kicked 34 out of 40 extra points and was a perfect 6 for 6 when beating TCP in OT on November 1, securing the league title and the number one seed into the crossover round. He has played linebacker and center, but is now only our kicker."
