WAITSBURG – The Waitsburg-Prescott boys’ basketball team nailed down two big wins over the weekend and brought their league record to .500, with one game left to go in the regular season.
On Friday the Cardinals traveled to Tri- Cities Prep and took a close game from the Jaguars, 44-41. The game was close throughout, as WP took a one-point lead into the half and then led by three after three.
Corey Brownlee had a big game for the Cardinals, scoring 14 points and pulling down 16 rebounds. Chris Campbell hand nine points, and Chance Leroue had six. The Cards sank four three-point shots, including two by Campbell.
On Saturday, WP hosted DeSales and came away with a resounding win, 66-52. Brownlee again had the hot hand for the Cardinals, with 17 points. Devin Acevedo added twelve points, while Leroue, Luke Alexenko and Nate Bartlow each had ten. The Cards again downed four three-pointers, including three by Alexenko. Leroue had 13 rebounds for the game.
The Cardinals play their final regular season games, in Dayton on Friday night and home against Asotin Saturday. Then they head to the District 9 Tournament on February 5.
