Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
DAYTON - The Blue Mountain Heritage Society is hosting their 7th Annual Ground Hog (sausage) Dinner on Saturday, February 1 at the Youth Building at the Columbia County Fairgrounds. Brats and McQuary's sausage will be accompanied by vegetables, salad, homemade rolls and pie choices. The dinner follows the longtime tradition of neighborhood gatherings held at Columbia County rural schools for over 125 years.
After dinner, Roslyn Edwards, "Schoolmarm from Smith Hollow" will regale attendees with tales from country schools around the county. The stories have been gathered from meoirs collected by Charlotte Hutchens and video interviews done by the Blue Mountain Heritage Society. Edwards has a long ad distinguished resume of performances in Touchet Valley Arts Council productions at Dayton's Liberty Theater.
The buffet dinner will be served from 5:30 to 6:30 with the presentation beginning at 6:35. Suggested donations for this dinner event are $12.50 per person or $35 per family. All proceeds support the Blue Mountain Heritage Society's Palus and Smith Hollow School museums. Tickets are available from BMHS board members, at the Village Shoppes (245 E. Main Street, Dayton), and at the door.
