Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
WAITSBURG - A second open planning meeting for Waitsburg Celebration Days will take place February 10 at 5 p.m. at the Waitsburg Business Center. Organizers are hoping for a better turnout than the first meeting.
Organizers will use the meeting to gauge community support for the May event and are hoping that club and group representatives as well as interested individuals will show up to provide input.
"If we're going to have an entire weekend event, we really need some help pulling it off," said Resource, Conservation and Development planner Lisa Naylor. Organizers traditionally begin planning for Celebration Days - a placeholder for the former Days of Real Sport - in November and are off to a late start this year.
Naylor says organizers are most interested in hearing what the community wants the weekend to be. While the parade, car cruise, dinner and dance are pretty much nailed down, extra events such as the family-friendly events held at the fairgrounds last year - goat tail tying, pole bending, etc. - require additional community support. Organizers are tossing around the possibility of adding new events such as an ATV Poker Ride, but want community feedback.
"We really need to know what the community wants," said Naylor. "If you have an idea of something you'd like to see, come to the meeting and get us excited about it."
Organizers would ideally like to see groups such as Rainbow, Lions, Scouts, FFA, etc. get involved by hosting an activity or food booth. The event opens many possibilities for groups to raise funds for their organizations while helping create a fun weekend for the community.
Waitsburg residents are encourage to attend Monday night's meeting to hear plans, offer suggestions, make requests, or otherwise support Waitsburg Celebration Days which falls on May 17, 18 and 19 this year.
