Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
DAYTON - Things seem to be going fairly well at Columbia County Senior Center. We were certainly surprised last week when we came for lunch to find there was a power outage. It didn't take too long to discover that some of us 'do not' cope when there is no coffee available! This didn't deter the guys playing pool. Any miscues (pardon the pun) were blamed on not seeing correctly. We had a good time reminiscing about yesteryear when we had no electricity, used kerosene lanterns, warmed up to a pot- bellied stove and the hand cranked wringer washing machines. I'm sure many of you remember all these, too.
Our group has been kept informed of several scams going around. All of us need to remember to 'just hang up'.
Our site-manager, Orinda, helped get our phone numbers registered for project 'CodeRed'. Have you registered yours??
We are having another potluck on Thursday, the 27th, followed by BINGO. Friends and family, come join us. It is a fun time!
Guests over the last 2-3 weeks have included: Mike Henckel, who is Outreach Coordinator for Wheatland Village; Becky Quinby; Lola Espinosa's daughter, Minta; and Ken Graham, owner/editor of 'The Times'. Ken was chastised for not eating his veggies, which was Brussels sprouts.
Some of our Seniors, who have had accidents and/or illnesses, are on the mend. These include: Marilyn England, Alice Danielson, Ken Erwin and Lizzie Schell.
Our special friend, Judi, has returned from Texas and is recuperating at home. Our very best wishes for good health go out to her.
We had a great time celebrating Valentine's Day, which happened to fall on our birthday lunch. Pastor Greg led us in an old-fashioned sing-along. Lots of toe-tapping and extra goodies of candy and cookies were available that day.
Those with birthdays in February are: Ellen Buruss, Greg Brownell, Charlotte Williams, Bill Gibson and Eunice Sweetwood.
Okay, folks, get ready to join us for lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our meals are provided by 'Touchet River Café' and thoroughly being enjoyed by all. For first- timers, call 382-2006 and get your name in the pot. We eat at noon, but come early for visiting, working on puzzles or playing pool.
