SPOKANE - With a few seconds remaining Saturday night, at the District
7/9 playoffs here, a Tri-Cities Prep outside shot broke a 51 all tie and sent the Waitsburg-Prescott boys basketball team home for good.
The Cardinals made a valiant comeback after trailing at the half by ten points. They played outstanding defense in the third quarter, outscoring the Jaguars 9-5 in that frame. They took the lead with two minutes remaining in the game, before the heartbreaking finish.
Coree Brownlee led the Cardinal scoring with 15 points, followed by Owen Lanning with ten. Point guard Luke Alexenko finished the game with nine points, sinking three three- point shots. Brownlee also had a huge night on the boards, nabbing 18 rebounds.
On Friday night, the WP boys fell to Liberty 80-53, to put them in Saturday's loser-out game.
