MILTON-FREEWATER - The WP Tigers softball team made 14 hits to Mac- Hi's six, but still lost by one dropping their first non- league game of the season, 10-9. Mac-Hi was ahead 8-3 at the bottom of the 5th, but six WP runs to Mac- Hi's one, in inning five tied the score at 9 all. Mac Hi brought in the final run in inning 6 to walk away with the win.
"For our first game of the season, our inexperience on the field really showed in certain situations. We only have two returning starters from last year's team, which won the District 9 Championship and went to State. Once we get the girls communicating more effectively and anticipating situations they'll cut down on their errors," said Coach Angie Potts. WP had 10 errors to Mac Hi's one.
WP sophomore Pitcher Jaidyn Brown walked away from her first full varsity game with 10 strikeouts and four walks. Jade Alleman caught all but inning 6, which was covered by Lexi Brannock. Analise Salazar, Loegan Harshman and Heidi Miller all made three hits each.
